Eat This! Ribeye Steak with Frites

Betty, Queen Anne

Friday night, a long week behind you and a hopefully relaxing, fun weekend to unfold.  But you need something tonight.  A dirty martini and a good steak.

Go to Betty on Queen Anne.  Convince your dinning companion to split the ribeye steak with frites, a salad, maybe an app if you’re starving.  Their steak ‘sauce’ is plate-licking delicious.  Luckily, they serve a few handfuls of house made frites that sop up the salty, rich juice to one of the best steaks in town.

One night Eddie and I sat at the bar, overlooking the grill station.  We asked the grill man to tell us a secret – what’s in the steak sauce?  Reduced veal broth, shallots, red wine, salt, pepper and fresh herbs, just to name a few ingredients, come together to flavor this prime cut of meat, a ribeye.  For $26 it’s also quite reasonable given size and quality.

Venture into the revolving menu, I’ve yet to be disappointed.  The cassoulet, cheese plate, greens with herbal vinaigrette, the Betty burger, pan-roasted chicken, all wonderful and soul satisfying.  Betty is a favorite because even if you don’t know what you’re in the mood for, the meal is always good.  Straight up bistro fare with enough posh to bring a first date, and yet casual in a way that won’t make you feel like a schlub for going post yoga.

Betty is sister to Crow (lower Queen Anne), both wonderful and bustling.  Chef and owners Craig Serbousek and Jesse Thomas have created two related but individual siblings.  As in any family, you’ll love them for their differences.

But Friday night… Friday night is for Betty, the best way to end your work week.
